MakerSolid Documentation Version 1.5.2

Sketch tool

Sketch Snapping

Control whether sketch input snaps to geometric targets or grid points and which target family wins when both are nearby.

Purpose

Control whether sketch input snaps to geometric targets or grid points and which target family wins when both are nearby.

Where to find it

Open an active sketch and use the magnet and Snap Priority controls at the lower left.

Selection

  • No selection is required; snapping affects subsequent drawing and supported editing gestures.

Steps

  1. Tap the magnet to enable snapping.
  2. Choose Geometry First or Grid First.
  3. Draw or move geometry and confirm the intended snap indicator before placing the point.

Options

Sketch Snapping

The magnet toggles all automatic sketch snapping; the priority control is unavailable while snapping is off.

The Sketch footer magnet, Geometry First/Grid First snap priority, and body visibility controls.

Geometry First

Favors available endpoints, centers, midpoints, and sketch edges before grid points. If no geometric target is close enough, it can still snap to the grid.

Grid First

Favors points on the visible sketch grid before nearby geometric targets.

Grid Size

Settings controls grid spacing and whether that spacing stays locked while the view zooms.

Result

New or moved points use the chosen snap target when one is acquired; no persistent constraint is implied by snapping alone.

Editing

Move the point again or add explicit dimensions and constraints when the relationship must remain stable.

Troubleshooting

A point snaps to the grid instead of existing geometry.

Keep snapping enabled, switch priority to Geometry First, zoom closer, and verify the geometric snap indicator before placing the point.
