Sketch tool

Path Pattern

Repeat sketch geometry along an ordered connected path with extent, rotation, and direction controls.

Purpose

Repeat sketch geometry along an ordered connected path with extent, rotation, and direction controls.

Where to find it

While editing a sketch, open Pattern and choose Path Pattern.

Selection

  • Select the Object first, then select connected Path pieces in travel order.

Steps

  1. Select Object and the path chain.
  2. Set Amount, Extent, optional Distance, Rotation, and Direction, then tap Apply.

Options

Amount

Sets the number of instances placed along the path.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Extent

Full Path distributes across the whole chain; Custom limits travel to Distance.

Full PathCustom

Distance

Sets used path length for Custom extent.

Available when: Shown for Custom extent.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Rotation

Adds angular rotation to instances relative to their path placement.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Direction

Forward follows selection order, Reverse traverses backward, and Bidirectional distributes both ways.

ForwardReverseBidirectional

Result

Apply creates copies placed along the resolved path chain.

Editing

Undo and recreate to change the source or path; resulting geometry can be edited normally.

Troubleshooting

The path is rejected or stops early.

Select an unbranched connected sequence in order and resolve every ambiguous continuation.
